Happy to add to the already glowing reviews of this gorgeous bungalow! My husband and I actually live in the neighborhood but needed an Airbnb for some work being done to our home. Truthfully, we had seen Alcazar Court being redone, and always wanted an excuse to stay there! It’s a great value especially for the neighborhood, which is walkable and convenient. Our bungalow was charming- spacious, clean, and cozy enough to feel like home. It preserves the feeling of a quaint bungalow but with modern appliances, a keyless secure lock/entry system perfect shower, comfy mattress, dishwasher, and even a washer and dryer (would be very handy for an extended stay!). The guest manual is the most thorough of any I’ve seen in my Airbnb stays, with perfectly curated tips. What set this home apart in the end for me was how thoughtfully decorated it is- there are some really incredible pieces of San Diego history on the walls and shelves to look out for, makes you feel like a part of something special. You can feel the care and love Donna has for San Diego, and her home!
Beautiful property, great location, and Donna is a great host.
My “stay” was actually a gift for my parents, who couldn’t have been happier. Thank you, Donna, for your perfect attention to every detail. World travelers, my parents have enjoyed home stays around the globe but never have I heard them so effusive – they couldn’t stop mentioning all the thoughtful amenities, which set their lovely and comfortable their Alcazar Court bungalow more than a notch above the rest.
Immaculate and just as beautiful if not more so in person than the photos. It’s really an exceptional property. Amenities galore. The kitchen is stocked with lots of tools, pots/pans, spices, plates, glassware, barware, toaster, coffee pot, gas range, etc. And how nice to find freshly ground coffee from a local purveyor on the counter, plus a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge upon my arrival. That all said, I don’t think there was a microwave, or else it was very cleverly hidden. Made no difference to me, but might matter to some. The bath, like others have mentioned, is simply beautiful with 5-star like toiletries, paper products, plush towels aplenty, and more. There was even a lint brush which I found very useful! Each bungalow has its own separate street number (instead of having a suffix like #1, #2, etc.), and this unit (3802) is on the corner. This is a very busy corner; lots of street traffic particularly during the day. I had no troubles whatsoever sleeping at night, but light sleepers should take notice and plan accordingly, e.g. earplugs. I had the good fortune to meet Donna, the owner, in person on the patio one afternoon, and she’s just as lovely as her property. Would I stay here again? In a heartbeat, but likely only for the case that I did not rent a car, or only rented a car for a single day with no intention of parking near this property. Parking, especially at night, can be very challenging. Identifying on-street spots that aren’t blocking driveways or red-painted-curbs isn’t trivial unless, say, you’re accustom to that kind of thing. Some nearby streets have free parking, but as you can imagine they’re more elusive. Others employ metered parking (2 hour max, no feeding the meters) from 10am-8pm. Note the metered parking time was formerly 8am-6pm in Hillcrest, but that has since changed so as of 1/2018, it’s 10am-8pm. The location of this property in the neighborhood makes it very walkable to tons of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. It’s even an easy walk to Balboa Park. Between that and the availability of Lyft/Uber, it’s quite easy to skip renting a car unless you need to travel a lot, and to distant locations. [Edited for length]
Wonderful stay at Donnas place. Good location, easy communication and very clean and comfortable space. 5 stars.
This is my second stay at Alcazar Court and it continues to be my favorite Airbnb and only place I’d want to stay in San Diego. You can expect a spotless and wonderfully decorated place with great amenities. Donna has thought of everything to make your stay fabulous.
Donna’s place continues to be a great spot for my work needs. It’s cute, convenient and clean. 10/10 staying here again. We had key pad troubles and Donna was always happy to help. Thanks Again! Great little spot, convenient to everything you’d need in Hillcrest. The listing was very nicely decorated with high end finishes. Perfect for a getaway or travel for work.
Alcazar Court is wonderful! The quality for what you pay can’t be beat. Very comfortable and home-like, with unexpected touches like games in the cupboard, Prosecco in the fridge, a yoga mat and a white noise machine, and dozens of other amenities. Location is ideal and it’s relatively quiet. Five stars!
Best review in that I would stay there again. The patio is just lovely.
There just are not enough stars to rate this place. So many thoughtful amenities and an amazing location. I only wish I could stay for good!
The studio is very cute and has everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It’s very close to everything in Hillcrest.
We had a really nice stay at Alcazar Court. Donna was a pleasure to work with, quick responses and professional. There were many nice features. The best of these was the location. You could walk to many cool restaurants, the grocery and about anything else you could need. The place itself was very nicely decorated and modern, but had the charm of a vintage bungalow! The bathroom is worth a mention because of the great water pressure. There were a few drawbacks that we managed to handle that might be deal breakers for others. As noted, parking is not included. As we visited during a holiday weekend, there were times it was tough to find an un-metered spot. Also, the place is on the corner of a busy 4-way stop intersection, thus the traffic noise of cars stopping/going was a factor. While the bedroom and bathroom had sliding doors, they did little to block most noise or light. In addition, having to go through the bedroom to get to the bathroom was also a drawback for us. Having said this, we would still happily recommend this place to those who prefer a great location in a very cool, bustling neighborhood. And would happily stay again.
Great apartment, comfortable, stylish and with a great kitchen. The patio is also great. Awesome location walking distance from all the Hillcrest restaurants and nightlife. Donna is a super responsive and attentive host. Recommend it!
Donna has a beautiful place in a very lovely quarter of San Diego. It is very clean and you can get all you need during your stay. We have spent four amazing days at Donna’s enjoying also her courtyard.
Looking online this looked amazing and it was! Everything you could need or want has been thought of and the design of all is beautiful. Great location for walking and street parking was easy.
Having lived in the neighborhood previously, I knew the location was great. Donna’s place provided access to everything we like. In the morning we could go right out the door for runs through Balboa Park or Presidio Park in Mission Hills. During the day we could walk over to La Posta for a tasty California Burritos, down the street to Whole Foods for essentials (i.e. coffee beans, beer, and cheese), and to 4th Ave for gluten-free treats at Starry Lane Bakery. We also spent time visiting friends and dining in University Heights, North Park and Little Italy. All of these neighborhoods could be easily accessed by a quick Lyft ride. When we were not out and about, the restored 1920’s apartment was a nice little oasis for relaxing. I found myself reading in the backyard patio while my wife did her yoga in the living room. I also really appreciated the ability to Chromecast my Netflix and Hulu shows off my iPhone and play my Spotify tunes on the wireless speakers.
